WordPress Fixes and Performance
WordPress sites slow down or become unpredictable as they grow. Pages take longer to load, small errors appear, and parts of the site feel unreliable. I identify the cause and apply the fixes needed to restore stability.
When WordPress starts to feel unreliable
Performance and stability issues usually build up gradually. A WordPress site may run well for years, then slowly become heavier as new plugins are added, themes age, or updates overlap with older configurations. You might notice:
- Pages loading slowly or inconsistently
- A high Time To First Byte (TTFB) on certain pages
- Forms or ecommerce features working only some of the time
- Layouts shifting or breaking on mobile devices
- The WordPress dashboard becoming noticeably slower
- Scripts or styles interfering with each other after updates
- Sudden spikes in resource usage
- Images or assets loading in an uneven way
These symptoms often point to deeper issues such as outdated themes, legacy plugins, caching conflicts, database inefficiencies, or changes made over time without a full view of the whole system. My aim is to understand the complete picture and resolve the root cause.

Why these issues matter
A slow or unreliable WordPress site affects more than performance metrics. It changes how people experience your business, how confident you feel using your site, and how well the system responds during busy periods. Small technical problems tend to grow over time, making updates riskier and everyday work more frustrating.
A well-repaired and optimised site feels calm, predictable, and ready to support your day-to-day tasks.
How the process works
1. Understand the symptoms
Tell me what has been happening, even if it feels inconsistent. Many issues become clearer once patterns are described.
2. Diagnose the root cause
I review the site's structure, hosting, performance profile, and compatibility factors to identify the real source of the issue. The goal is to avoid temporary fixes and address what is actually causing the problems.
3. Apply the fixes
Once the causes are clear, I implement the updates, repairs, and optimisations needed to restore stability and improve speed.
4. Recommend next steps
If your site would benefit from deeper improvements or a future rebuild, I will explain why and outline your options clearly.
When fixes may not be enough
Some sites reach a point where ongoing patches are less effective than starting fresh. You may benefit from a rebuild if:
- the theme is outdated or no longer supported
- the site has collected years of technical debt
- plugins overlap or conflict frequently
- the structure is unclear or difficult to manage
- performance issues return regularly
If this applies, I will always tell you. A rebuild can be a more stable long-term approach, and this forms part of my Build and Enhance service.
Not sure what is causing the issue?
You do not need to diagnose it yourself. If you describe what you are seeing, I will help you understand what is likely happening and what the next steps should be.
